What Does a SEER Rating on an Air Conditioner Mean?

There are so many types and brands of air conditioners, oftentimes, it's difficult to fully understand which machines are best for your home, and which do not provide what you're looking for in a system. SEER ratings are easy to understand and will allow you to select the right air conditioner for your home.

How Is a SEER Rating Determined?
The calculations that make up a SEER rating can be relatively complicated, but it's easy to understand once you know that the higher the rating, the more energy-efficient your unit will be. SEER represents the Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio and is designed to identify the performance efficiency of the air conditioner. The rating is determined by the cooling output through a standard season for where you live divided by the electrical energy input during that same season. That end number is the final rating, which provides you with a means of identifying which AC units are worth the cost and which ones you should avoid.
